Fiance's good friend just got a plug in Prius because she "loves the environment"...

You should buy a Hummer just to get her away from you (not your fiance, her friend).

My Land Rover gets 13 mpg on the highway if I get a tail wind, I'm driving that thing to her house from now on...

Then tell her that the only reason he got the hummer is to offset any potential benefit her single sale might have had on the environment.

Well thats nice. The best thing you can do now is buy an old 50+ mpg Honda CRX. Then explain that you get comparable fuel economy/emissions, saved a boatload in cash upfront, and in several years when the prius's battery needs replacing tell them how the crx will actually be worth more then their car.
If that is not enough, go ahead and tell them that buying used you also had a much smaller impact on the environment by not fueling industries fires/mines/etc.

Then steal the tires from the Prius and say you did it to save electricity and the fuel required to make electricity, therefore saving the environment and sparing 2.5683 polar bears, 0.8352 glaciers, and 0.00000000325% of the ozone layer.

Make sure they burn the tyres in a terribly inefficient barrel fire in their front yard.

While you cut down all the trees in her front yard with the bones of a whale killed by an oil spill.

Hard to believe how many people still don't understand this.
We also need a decent study on the environmental impacts of electric vehicle battery production and disposal.

Eh. The less gas they use, the more gas for us.
